JMDC to Re-open August 30, 2025

May contain: animal, dinosaur, reptile, and t-rex

The Jurupa Area Recreation and Park District (JARPD) is proud to announce the official re-opening of the Jurupa Mountains Discovery Center (JMDC) following a temporary closure due to the Real Fire on August 7, 2025. Thanks to the swift response of staff, first responders, and community partners, JMDC is once again ready to welcome visitors back to explore, learn, and connect with nature.

JMDC, a 60+ year-old outdoor earth and live science museum, was safely evacuated during the after-hours fire. Staff responded within minutes of the call, ensuring the well-being of the site’s animals and safeguarding its treasured exhibits. While some regions of the grounds required cleanup and recovery efforts, the majority of the center remained intact.

“We are grateful to our incredible team, our community, and the emergency personnel who acted quickly to protect this beloved center,” said Wes Andree, Discovery Center Administrator. “The Discovery Center has been part of the community for generations, and we are thrilled to reopen our doors and continue inspiring curiosity and discovery for visitors of all ages.”

With the reopening, guests can once again enjoy learning expeditions, interactive exhibits, gardens, and the Museum of Discoveries, along with JMDC’s popular programs in paleontology, geology, and natural science. The Granite Hill Nursery and animal habitats are also fully open to the public.

Community Welcome Day: To celebrate the reopening, JARPD invites the community to a special “Welcome Back Day” on August 30, 2025, featuring guided tours, family activities, and opportunities to support ongoing recovery efforts.

The Jurupa Mountains Discovery Center stands as a symbol of resilience and community spirit. JARPD encourages residents and visitors alike to come experience the wonder of this unique natural and educational resource.
