Jurupa Mountains Discovery Center Closure Due to Damage from Real Fire

Jurupa Valley, CA — The Jurupa Mountains Discovery Center (JMDC) is announcing a temporary closure following damage sustained during the Real Fire, on August 7, 2025.

The wildfire, which quickly escalated due to winds and dry conditions, damaged the JMDC’s grounds, infrastructure, and surrounding natural habitats. While no injuries have been reported among staff or volunteers, the facility has suffered losses requiring thorough assessment, cleanup, and recovery efforts.

None of the buildings on the property were damaged during the incident, but many areas of the facility need to be repaired before public access can be permitted.

“Our hearts are heavy,” said Wes Andree, JMDC Administrator. “The Discovery Center is more than just a museum — it's a community space for education, exploration, and connection with nature. We are devastated by the destruction but remain committed to rebuilding and continuing our mission.”

JMDC will update the community as more information becomes available and encourages those interested in supporting recovery efforts to follow the center’s official website and social media channels.
